Salon du Chocolat is the chocolate festival that took place this year across France from 20th-24th October. The festival features many events ranging from the highly amusing to the highly informative, drawing thousands of visitors each year – with chocolate awards, children’s workshops, and a grand Alter eco patisserie quiz only to name a few.
The event kicked off in style in a burlesque baroque setting, with the annual chocolate fashion show at the parc des expositions porte de Versailles in Paris. Each year, fashion designers and chocolatiers from all over the world come together to create chocolate covered outfits for the fashion show, featuring French models and celebrities. This year’s guest of honour at the fashion show was the famous fashion designer, Chantal Thomass.
The catwalk featured models in their chocolate outfits. Elsa Fayer, dressed by Alexandra Gerbault and Philippe Pacoet left a sweet trail of the sweet stuff behind her on the catwalk. Former Miss France Cindy Fabre was dressed in a gladiator-style bikini. Also on the runway were actress Valentine Feau and film star Anca Radici, who walked down the chocolate-strewn catwalk.
Models often have enough trouble trying to balance on their sky-scraping heels on the catwalk without having to worry about suffering a wardrobe malfunction. But model turned presenter Karine Ferri kept calm and acted professional when her chocolate outfit shattered half way down the runway.
Tiga To's dress featured a huge bottom made out of chocolate on the rear. Another figure on runway wore a dress made of the cherries that adorned some of the dresses with the models .
Men joined the female models on the runway too, in a slightly more covered up but equally flamboyant way. French skater Philippe Candeloro was dressed as a giant chocolate ice cream, complete with a wafer-covered cone. Newsreader Jean-Philippe Doux dressed as a circus ringleader in an over-sized bow-tie and tails, all made of chocolate.
